ON SCREEN
Turbo Kid rides on the back of Ryan Gosling's silver-slick jacket in Drive with the same synth-pop kind of aural dreaminess, delivered beautifully by Montreal’s Le Matos. Movie starts at 330PM courtesy of Raven Banner Releasing.

PLAYING LIVE
Timecop1983 (Netherlands) is now a veritable LEGEND of the world synthwave and dreamwave scene. His romantic, cinematic and dreamy tunes mixed with unique upbeat and danceable synthwave and dreamwave has been captivating the world, especially with recent support slots on FM-84’s tour stops. His music has been featured in various films including the Netflix productions Coin Heist Full Movie and You get me. His music forms part of the soundtrack for the videogame ‘Crossing Souls’ by Fourattic (published by Devolver Digital) and he has soundtracked various other films. He also collaborated on The Midnight’s EP ‘Nocturnal’.
FM Attack (Vancouver) is known as one of the pioneers who helped create the synthwave movement. Ryan Gosling said it during an interview while promoting the film Drive. Since his debut album, FM Attack signed a publishing deal with Chrysalis Music which lead to numerous remixes from artists such as Tegan & Sara, Trans-X, PNAU, Tesla Boy and Richard Marx. His sophomore album ‘Déjà vu’ was released to critical acclaim in 2013 and hailed as a dreamwave classic. His latest album ‘Stellar’ has broken boundaries between synthwave, synthpop and new wave, with recent live performances wowing audiences across America and Canada.
Kalax (Liverpool, UK) is the most talked about synthwave artist on message boards, NRW posts and among artists. This elusive character started writing 80s movie influenced and cinematic scored soundscapes in 2013 and there’s no wonder he is the go-to guy for synth promoters and festivals worldwide since then. Kalax is no doubt one of the most prolific designers of the synthwave sound and visual element, with a new album due for release this year.
Michael Oakley (Toronto/Glasgow) burst onto the world synth scene with his EP ‘California’ back in 2016. The conduit of all things synth, NewRetroWave, picked up on this darling of the retrowave scene and his song Rabbit In The Headlights garnered over 100k views in record time. It’s not often a synth artist comes along with such mesmerising vocal talent like Oakley’s. With song production second to none – it’s also no wonder Propellerhead Software Reason software showcased his talents in a mini-doc last year. Michael releases a new album this year.
Dana Jean Phoenix (Toronto) needs no introduction. This Canadian synth siren has a voice of gold and has been putting synth on the world map, collaborating with production heavyweights across the globe like Gost, Perturbator, Nightcrawler Music, Highway Superstar and Sunglasses Kid. Energetic live performance aside, her music has been featured on @NBCTheVoice (US) and her collaboration with Dutch dreamwave artist Timecop1983 'Dreams (Feat. Dana Jean Phoenix)', was featured in the Netflix original films 'You Get Me' and 'Coin Heist' and the PS4/PC game 'Crossing Souls'. Dana's latest album, 'PixelDust' is available on iTunes & Bandcamp, and features production from Powernerd, Mecha Maiko, Till Wild, Straplocked, FAVORIT89, Satori in Bed, MikeGyver, and Patrick Gill.
Parallels (Toronto) straddles the divide between sparkling pop and dreamy synthwave. It’s no wonder this power 3-piece have garnered attention from ‘the outside’. Since hitting #1 on Canada's National Electronic Chart in October 2015, PARALLELS has toured extensively covering thousands of miles bringing their collection of vintage synthesizers and lively HI-NRG rhythms from Toronto to LA, Moscow to Miami, New York to San Francisco and everywhere in between. The band has also been an electric presence at CMJ, CMW and El Paso’s Neon Desert Music Festival, and has shared billing with internationally-acclaimed artists such as Florence + the Machine, Crystal Castles, A-Trak, Glass Candy, The Juan Maclean and Broken Social Scene.
Mecha Maiko is Toronto-based electronic musician, photographer, and writer Hayley Stewart — formerly one-half of synth duo Dead Astronauts. Having released her debut album ‘Mad But Soft’ on NRW Records, her mesmerising new electronic EP ‘Okiya’ followed this year. Join us at Outland Toronto 2019 to witness first hand the imaginative world of Mecha Maiko.
